Casa Bianca
White cubes, shifted, on dry ground.
Menorca's light is unforgiving, which makes it the best material available. Casa Bianca is a stack of lime-plastered cubes, shifted against one another so that each shift produces a terrace above and a shaded recess below.
Windows are few and deeply set. The reveals are almost half a metre, so each opening becomes a small room of its own and the interior stays cool without mechanical help.
The landscape was left alone. Prickly pear, agave and dry scrub run right up to the wall, and nothing was irrigated.
