Casa Verde
A house that lets the garden climb through it.
Casa Verde begins with a retaining wall and ends with a garden. The site fell away sharply to the south, so the house was cut into the slope as a series of terraces, each one holding soil, water and planting as much as it holds rooms.
Board-formed concrete carries the structure and is left entirely unfinished. Over time the climbing planting will take the south elevation completely, and the building will read less as an object and more as a ledge in the hillside.
The interior is arranged around a single vertical void that draws light down to the lowest terrace. Nothing in the house is more than one room deep, so every space sees green on two sides.
