Villa M
A single horizontal line held above the sea.
The brief asked for a house that would disappear when seen from the water. The response was to make one gesture only: a long horizontal slab, cantilevered eleven metres over the pool terrace, with everything else pushed back into the rock behind it.
The cantilever is the whole building. Its soffit is lined in warm oak, so from below the house reads as a warm plane rather than a heavy one. The pool sits directly beneath it, and on still mornings the slab and its reflection close into a single figure.
Living spaces run the full length behind a single uninterrupted pane of glass. There are no corners in the plan, and no doors on the sea side.
